For Christmas

Copyright 1982

Copies available from The Cantor's Closet: 20

Text:

Lift up your heads
No need to mourn
His hand is stretched out still
For unto us a child is born
His promise to fulfill
Jerusalem! He cried for you
He did not come to us in vain
His loving arms are open wide for you
And he will come
He will come again

Bethlehem morning
Is more than just a memory
For the Child that was born there
Has come to set us free
Bethlehem sunrise
I can see Him in your eyes
For the Child that was born there
His spirit never dies
His star will never, will never grow dim
And it's a brand-new dawn
A new Jerusalem
And we and we will reign
We will reign with him

Bethlehem morning
Is more than just a memory
For the Child that was born there
Has come to set us free
Bethlehem sunrise
I can see it in your eyes
For the Child that was born there
Is the King of kings
And the Lord of lords
And He will come again

Text:

Upon the road to Bethlehem one dark and chilly night,
I caught a fleetings glimpse of them, a worn and weary sight.
Upon the road to Bethlehem I hardly looked their way;
For who could know the child she would bear would rule the world one day.
Upon the road, I can't recall a single soul who soke to them, or noticed them at all,
For on the road to Bethlehem, they were a common sight;
But would they find a place to shield them from the night?
Upon that road to Bethlehem we find ourselves today;
and could it be the Prince of Peace we pass along they way?
And will we offer as before a lovely manger bed;
Or could we cradle this tiney child within our hears instead?

Text:

Shall I gather emr'lds, shall I bring him gold?
Shall I shower diamonds, white-hard, bright-cold?
Shall I spangle jewels like stars above?
Give him laughter, bring peace-filled laughter ,
Offer him warm laughter and love.

Simplest of gifts, gentlest of hearts;
kindness he'll use as he leads .
So, give him these gifts, hand him your hearts,
Honor his birth and you'll need no
Emr'lds nor rubies, silver nor gold;
neither bright diamonds, white-hard, bright-cold
Spangle not rich jewels like stars above;
You'll have laughter, sweet peace-filled laughter,
simple warm laughter and love.
